I agree with Carl McWilliams in the May 22 Aspen Times (“Solar radiation the way to go,” letters) that solar radiation is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint. I have had solar-heat collectors for over 20 years now (ever since the Carter administration), and it does a wonderful job of heating my 80-gallon water heater. When the water heater is satisfied (173 degrees), it is programmed to move the heat to the hot-water baseboard in the lower floor of the house. In the summer, only solar heats the water heater and in the winter, the excess heat warms the house. During construction of a house, the piping for the solar should be done and the possibility of storage should be considered. Another important aspect is to pay close attention to the design to incorporate passive solar heating. ....
Fiscally irresponsible Approximately three years ago, I personally emailed every mayor and councilman/trustee in the six municipalities of Garfield County (Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, New Castle, Silt, Rifle and Parachute), and declared that Garfield County commissioners. ....
Fenwick Island officials are busy getting ready for what looks like it could be a banner summer in the resort town. On Friday, April 23, Mayor Eugene Langan said at the councilâs regular monthly meeting that, in conversations he has had with area real estate professionals, he is learning that rentals in the town âare absolutely booked through the fall. âI have a feeling itâs going to be a busy, busy summer,â Langan said. The report mirrors recent comments from Bethany Beach officials, who are expecting heavy crowds this summer. Fenwick Island Town Manager Teresa Tieman told the council that, as of May 3, town employees will be working in the town hall again as a whole, for the first time in more than a year. Since last March, town staff have been rotating being in the office and working from home, to reduce potential exposures if someone were to be diagnosed with COVID-19. ....
Wasted money The American economist Art Laffer is credited with coining the metaphor: “In a democracy, the people get the government they deserve.” Accordingly. the people of Garfield County are getting the government they deserve in the three longtime incumbent Republican Garfield County Commissioners: Mike Samson. John Martin and Tom Jankovsky, and their “legacy inertia” toward developing new innovation technology policies that will reinvigorate the west Garfield County natural gas industry. A glaring example is their refusal to accept the demise of the “Second Wave” natural gas industry economic model and their continuing denial of the megatrend toward zero carbon emissions. ....
