Joe Joyce forces a finish in six rounds against Carlos Takam

Joe Joyce forces a finish in six rounds against Carlos Takam
Joe Joyce is victorious in his heavyweight clash with Carlos Takam at Wembley Arena
JOE JOYCE halted Carlos Takam in the sixth round of their heavyweight clash at Wembley Arena on Saturday (July 24).
Early on Takam scooped rights over the top to catch out Joyce. The Briton found the timing for his right hand better in the second round, although Takam continued to unload hooks and chop away at Joe’s trunk. But Joyce started to knock him back in the final seconds of the fourth round, a big left hook set up a hard right that Takam felt just before the bell called Joe off. ....

Carlos Takam Outboxes Joe Joyce Early But Gets Stopped In The Sixth

By: Hans Themistode
Joe Joyce (13-0, 12 KOs) may have walked into his showdown against Carlos Takam as the prohibited favorite but he found his opponent much more difficult to deal with.
Coming off the heels of the biggest win of his career against Daniel Dubois, Joe Joyce kept his undefeated record intact and his world title hopes alive. Both he and Takam (39-6-1, 28 KOs) met in the center of the ring at Wembley Arena and threw bombs from the opening bell.
As usual, Joyce came out pushing a slow and clumsy jab. The former 2016 Olympic silver medalist has long been criticized for his lack of hand speed and once again, had it back on display. Takam, on the other hand, boxed well on the outside. He landed the cleaner shots and easily avoided the glacially slow offensive attack that came in his direction. ....

Joe Joyce had some early tough moments against veteran Carlos Takam, but his increasingly famous durability and engine held true to reputation, and he was able to force a stoppage early in the sixth round to stay undefeated.
Joyce (13-0, 12 KO) arguably lost the first three rounds of this fight, but had a turning point late in the third where he hurt Takam (39-6-1, 28 KO) just a bit, and he won the fourth and fifth frames with steady, consistent work, including some fourth round body shots that made a clear difference and slowed Takam down. ....

Panel: Would Joe Joyce beat the top heavyweights?

Panel: Would Joe Joyce beat the top heavyweights?
Lewis Richardson
GB middleweight
You can’t really write Joe off after what he’s achieved in both the amateurs and pros. His style isn’t the most pleasing on the eye but he’s so efficient and effective. My personal opinion is he wouldn’t beat the top heavyweights but he deserves his shot.
Tony Jeffries
Olympic medallist
I don’t think Joe is there yet with only 12 pro fights but I think he will get there soon. Takam will be a proper test.
Charlie Sims
Boxing manager
I think Joe Joyce will give Tyson Fury or Anthony Joshua a hard night’s work with his work rate and size. I think both Tyson and AJ will be too experienced for him, both are great boxers technically and have been at top level for some time. Tyson and Joshua both edge hard-fought points victories. ....
