The jury heard evidence of how her âdark thoughtsâ intensified rapidly, particularly on the day before her childrenâs deaths, when her husband, Andrew McGinley, was away on a work trip.
âThe feelings intensified that I needed to go. I started to think it was going to be Thursday or Friday that it would happen,â she later told gardaÃ.
âI didnât tell anyone how dark my thoughts were. I didnât tell anyone I was suicidal or I thought of taking the children with me,â she said in her statement to gardaÃ.
Mr McGinley was due back on Friday evening. The court heard how, on Thursday evening, she had attempted to sedate all three children, having formulated a plan to suffocate them in their sleep. Conor was having a bowl of porridge before bed, and Darragh was having Honey Cheerios.

The jurors in the trial of a woman accused of the murder of her three children will continue their deliberations on Thursday.
Deirdre Morley of Parson s Court, Newcastle, Co Dublin, has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the murder of her sons Conor McGinley (9) and Darragh McGinley (7) and her daughter Carla McGinley (3). The children s bodies were discovered at the family home just before 8pm on January 24 last year.
Jurors had begun deliberations this afternoon (Wednesday), but did not reach a verdict.
