(WWSB) - Charges have been filed against the man who intentionally crashed his car into the driver’s side of Master Corporal Brian LaVigne’s cruiser on January 11th. According to the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office, Travis Garrett, 28, will be facing “the most serious charge in all of Florida law,” he will be prosecuted for first-degree premeditated murder of a law enforcement officer.

Hillsborough community says farewell to corporal killed in line of duty By Josh Cascio Josh Cascio reports LUTZ, Fla. - An entire community paused today to pay tribute to a fallen deputy. Hillsborough County Master Corporal Brian LaVigne, killed last week in the line of duty, was laid to rest. LaVigne was posthumously promoted to sergeant this afternoon by Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister.  Thousands of fellow deputies and law enforcement officers from across the state and even across the country came to the Idlewild Baptist Church in Lutz to pay their respects. LaVigne, 54, was killed in the line of duty last week. He was one shift away from retirement when a suspect rammed his cruiser in Brandon.

Flags Fly At Half-Staff In Honor Of Late Hillsborough Deputy Brian LaVigne

By John Conrad Jan 15, 2021 TAMPA (WFLA) – Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered flags to fly at half-staff in Hillsborough County on Tuesday in honor of the late Master Corporal Brian LaVigne. On Jan.13, Master Corporal Lavigne was killed in the line of duty while responding to a call as backup. Lavigne was just days away from his retirement. He leaves behind his wife and two grown children. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said Master Corporal Brian LaVigne’s visitation and funeral will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at Idlewild Baptist Church located at 18333 Exciting Idlewild Boulevard in Lutz.

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said deputies were responding to a call for service from management at the Paddock Club Apartments around 3:42 p.m. Monday. The caller said the man had been throwing furniture and clothes out of his apartment window and front door. The caller also said this individual has threatened to harm staff in the past. Deputies were not able to make contact with the man and left the area.

Florida Deputy Killed on Duty Was Just One Shift Away From Retirement On 1/13/21 at 6:06 AM EST A Florida deputy who was killed while on duty was just one shift away from retirement, his sheriff has said. Brian LaVigne, 54, died on Monday afternoon after Travis Garrett, 28, rammed a vehicle into his marked police car while trying to flee from other officers, Hillsborough County Sheriff s Office said. Sheriff Chad Chronister said that LaVigne, who had been on the force for more than 20 years, was just about to retire. In a statement, Chronister said: Master Corporal Brian LaVigne was a part of the Hillsborough County Sheriff s Office family since 1990, and he was just one shift away from retirement. We will never forget Master Corporal LaVigne for laying down his life in the line of duty or the response of his squad members who did everything they could to ensure that the individual responsible for his death was apprehended.
