The National Party received nearly $3 million in large donations in 2020 - nearly twice the amount donated to Labour.
The Electoral Commission today released the full list of large donations made to political parties for the 2020 calendar year.
Political parties do not have to disclose how much they receive in small donations which are less than $1500. ....

The Māori Party says it has still not heard officially that its late declaration of donations has been referred to the Serious Fraud Office.
Radio New Zealand is reporting Police passed on information provided by the Electoral Commission regarding donations from former party co-leader John Tamihere, National Urban Māori Authority and a limited partnership, totaling more than $300,000.
The party says it acknowledged it failed to report the donations within the 10-day period required for sums over $30,000 and self-reported its error to the Electoral Commission.

Newshub has learned police have referred the Māori Party to the Serious Fraud Office after it failed to declare hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations on time.
All political donations above $30,000 must be declared to the Electoral Commission within 10 working days, but the Māori Party failed to do so with three large donations made between March and October.

The Electoral Commission has given National a warning over failing to declare a donation in time. 
All political donations above $30,000 must be declared to the Electoral Commission within 10 working days, but the National Party failed to declare $35,000 in donations from businessman Garth Barfoot on time. 
The return should have been filed after the election in November last year but it was not filed until March 31, which prompted the Electoral Commission to investigate. 
It has written to the National Party reinforcing the importance of adhering to the statutory timeframes but noted that an additional step is being taken to strengthen donation notification processes within the party .  ....
