ELIZABETHTON â Downtown Elizabethton held its first First Friday of the season Friday, with many shops and restaurants offering sales and staying open late. In addition to shopping and dining, several other activities were going on. Watts Dance Studio put on a program to a large and enthusiastic crowd in the backyard of the Elizabethton Fire Department, the first of three performances during the evening hosted by the Bonnie Kate Theater. The other two were the East Tennessee Ballet Academy and another dance show put together by the Appalachian Irish Dance Academy. The longest lines were at the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce, where people stood in line for registration packet for the Music and Miles Half Marathon. The race takes place today and extends from one end of Elizabethton to the other. ....
ELIZABETHTON â The first First Friday of the season in Downtown Elizabethton is set to take place May 7, with the emphasis on many different types of arts, from drawing and painting to weird art, chalk art, live music, theatrical performers and a lot more. The event begins at 9 a.m. and will continue all day and through the evening until 11. Everything is free and open to people of all ages. Roger Bailey is especially excited about the First Friday kickoff. Although he grew up here, he is an artist who is new to downtown. He and his wife, Abigail, have opened Birdhouse Studio at 429.5 E. Elk Ave. The studio is already open for business and will hold its ribbon cutting May 4. ....
ELIZABETHTON â The annual Carter County Legislative Breakfast is always a great way to hear the latest news and explanations about government from the men and women who write and enforce the laws. That will be particularly true with the 2021 legislative breakfast, because Gov. Bill Lee will be one of the political leaders attending. The Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce, which organizers the events, announced that Lee will address the community at the legislative breakfast. The event will be held on May 14 at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Elizabethton. Doors will be open for breakfast and networking at 8:30 a.m. The program will take place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. ....
ELIZABETHTON â Thursdayâs Elizabethton City Council meeting saw a bit of history as council members accepted a train display from the local Chamber. The display was given to the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce many years ago and was displayed on city property next to U.S. Highway 19E where the Chamber offices used to be located. With the Chamberâs move to its new offices in downtown Elizabethton, it was decided to turn the train over to the city to make sure the train remains properly cared for. âWe are delighted to gift this icon to the City for safe keeping as we complete our move,â said Chamber Executive Director Joy McCray. âWe hope tourists and train enthusiasts will continue to come and see it.â ....
