The upcoming International Eucharistic Congress will be marked as the first global event after the pandemic in Hungary, which is slowly reopening up after a devastating COVID-19 attack. Pope Francis is scheduled to attend the Sept. 5-12 event in Budapest, along with Church leaders and Catholics from across the world. The international religious event will be a sign of hope for Hungary amid human misery, according to Hungarian Cardinal Péter Erdő. Since September last year the nation of 10 million people witnessed more than 29,000 COVID-19 deaths, one of the highest per capita pandemic death toll in the world.
