The claim: A 2-year-old girl in Virginia died after receiving the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine during clinical trials
As pharmaceutical companies test vaccine effectiveness in adolescents and children, a post has surfaced on social media claiming a 2-year-old girl in Virginia died after receiving the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is expected to authorize the Pfizer vaccine for adolescents ages 12-15 by mid-May, but studies for children ages 6 months to 11 years are still underway. 
The claim originated in an article April 30 from Natural News shared as a screen grab to Facebook on May 1 and headlined, “Two-year-old baby DIES during Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine experiments on children.” ....

University of Louisville commencement celebrates classes of 2020, 2021

For the first time in two years, University of Louisville graduates walked across a stage over the weekend in front of friends and family to celebrate commencement.
It was also the first time graduates from two separate years were recognized together for completing their degrees, with students from 2020 and 2021 gathering in Cardinal Stadium on Friday and Saturday. 
As she reflected on the past year during her commencement address Friday, U of L President Neeli Bendapudi said for many, it has been the longest year.
Think of everything we ve been through, she said. A global pandemic, which still rages in parts of the world; a financial crisis; and painful reminders of the racial injustices that persist in our country. ....

Kentucky COVID-19 restrictions: More rules loosening late May


Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear announced the next phase of loosening statewide coronavirus restrictions will happen over Memorial Day weekend.
Starting May 28, outdoor events and gatherings with fewer than 1,000 people can be held at 75% capacity, Beshear said during Thursday s COVID-19 briefing. 
Retail stores, restaurants, movie theaters and hair salons that cater to fewer than 1,000 people may also operate at 75% capacity beginning May 28. Indoor and outdoor events with more than 1,000 people will be limited to 60% capacity.
It gives us the time to make sure we get through these last weeks of school yet also gives notice to those that would be hosting folks, Beshear said. ....

Political Science Professor Jason Gainous wins UofL's 2021 Trustees Award


2021 Trustee Award Winner Jason Gainous
Jason Gainous, department chair and professor of political science in the University of Louisville College of Arts & Sciences, is the recipient of the 2021 Trustees Award.
The award, in its 32nd year, is UofL’s most prestigious faculty award, recognizing faculty members who have made significant contributions to student life. The UofL Board of Trustees made the announcement at its meeting April 22.
“Thank you so much,” Gainous said. “I couldn’t be more honored. I really do owe this so much to my students. I can’t believe what I get to do.”
Gainous, who has been at UofL since 2006, is a comparative political behavioralist whose research focuses on the intersection of information technology and public opinion. He is frequently interviewed by members of local, national and international media in television, print and radio for his political science expertise.
