Northern Arapaho elder to receive UW honorary doctoral degree


(Laramie, WY) – The University of Wyoming announced Monday they will confer its highest award, the honorary doctoral degree, upon two individuals who will be recognized during UW commencement ceremonies May 14-15.
They are Jim Magagna, the longtime executive vice president of the Wyoming Stock Growers Association and advocate for Wyoming ranchers; and recently deceased Northern Arapaho elder Crawford White Eagle Sr., who will be honored posthumously. Both will receive the Doctor of Humane Letters degree.

White Eagle, who died in January 2020, was one of the ceremonial leaders of the Northern Arapaho people of the Wind River Reservation. He served as a member of the Northern Arapaho Business Council and the Northern Arapaho Elders Council, working as a tireless advocate for the preservation of the tribe’s language and culture. CASPER, Wyo. The University of Wyoming said on Monday, May 3 that they will be conferring honorary doctoral degrees on two individuals during their up-coming May 14-15 commencement ceremonies. UW said the honorary degrees are the highest award that they give to people.
UW will confer the honorary degrees on “Jim Magagna, the longtime executive vice president of the Wyoming Stock Growers Association and advocate for Wyoming ranchers; and recently deceased Northern Arapaho elder Crawford White Eagle Sr., who will be honored posthumously.” ....

Magagna Earns University Of Wyoming Honorary Doctoral Degree


LARAMIE The University of Wyoming will confer its highest award, the honorary doctoral degree, upon Rock Springs native Jim Magagna, who will be recognized during UW commencement ceremonies May 14-15.
Magagna, the longtime executive vice president of the Wyoming Stock Growers Association and advocate for Wyoming ranchers will be honored along with recently deceased Northern Arapaho elder Crawford White Eagle Sr.
They each will receive the Doctor of Humane Letters degree.

Magagna has led the Wyoming Stock Growers Association since 1998. Before that, he served as director of the Wyoming Office of State Lands and Investments and Office of Federal Land Policy. He also chaired the Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission during that time. ....

Ciara Hodgkinson of Pratt, Kansas, a December graduate in agribusiness, along with Summer Smades of Leoti, Kansas, a senior in agricultural economics, has been awarded the David and Susan Barton Cooperative Leadership Scholarship through the Arthur Capper Cooperative Center and the Department of Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University.
Hodgkinson was an active student after transferring from Pratt Community College to Kansas State University. She served as president of Alpha Zeta and served as secretary and vice president of Collegiate Farm Bureau. She has been involved in many other organizations including K-State Agricultural Economics-Agribusiness Club, Gamma Sigma Delta, Block and Bridle and Phi Theta Kappa. In addition, Ciara finds time to volunteer on service projects. She has completed internships with Skyland Grain, Kansas Farm Bureau and also worked with CoBank on an extended internship. Carol Lynn Smithson Sinsel, 64, of 167 Cole Street, Philippi, went to the feet of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Jan. 12, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
She is the daughter of Anna Gale Roberts Smithson and the late V.L. “Sonny” Smithson of Belington. She was born Jan. 28, 1956, in Parsons.
She married Steven Hall Sinsel, who has been a wonderful husband and care giver, on Aug. 20, 1977, at the Belington Baptist Church. They had celebrated 43 years of marriage.
Surviving are her daughters, Stephanie Danielle Sinsel and granddog, Neiko, of Morgantown, Bronlyn Nicole Smith and husband, Ben; and her precious granddaughters, Maggie Jade and Mia Kathryn, also of Morgantown. ....
