Cabarrus and Union counties have received state approval to cut ties with Cardinal Innovations Healthcare. Cardinal coordinates behavioral health care for Medicaid recipients in 20 North Carolina counties. At least four other counties Mecklenburg, Forsyth, Stanly and Orange have also taken steps to drop Cardinal.
Cabarrus and Union will switch to using a different agency, Partners Health Management, beginning Sept. 1, according to a joint press release issued by the counties and Partners on Friday.
Steve Morris, chair of the Cabarrus Board of Commissioners, said in the release that Partners will help advance what he called the county’s goal of a safe, healthy community that provides appropriate mental health services.”

CABARRUS COUNTY â The Cabarrus Association of Educators (CAE) released a statement to the Board of Education following Thursdayâs Called Meeting in which it was confirmed the district would open under Plan B as scheduled Jan. 19.
âOn January 14, the Cabarrus Board of Education called a meeting for âtransparencyâ in Plan B, but instead undermined staff morale with divisive rhetoric when the majority of Cabarrus Countyâs parents and teachers support each otherâs efforts,â the statement, which was released Sunday, reads. âThe current school board, with the exception of Carolyn Carpenter, has consistently made decisions that have run counter to scientific data and the recommendations of the superintendent and Cabarrus Health Alliance.

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - As part of their December work session, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners re-elected Steve Morris as board chair and Diane Honeycutt as board vice chair.
Morris first joined the Cabarrus Board of Commissioners in 2012 and became chair in 2014. He owns and operates The Gem Theatre in Kannapolis. He attended NC State University, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
