The Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board Wednesday approved spending $870,910 on a system designed to improve air quality at 39 schools that lack the outside airflow that could reduce COVID-19 risk. Those schools have been a point of contention since CMS began bringing staff and students back. Most schools can bring in outside air to reduce the risk that virus-bearing droplets will linger. But the district says at least some classrooms or buildings on the 39 campuses lack that capability. The 8-0 vote approved a contract for Chiller Services to install needlepoint bipolar ionization systems. ....

By Thomas Lott CONCORD â Thereâs a reason Amy Hicks has been a nominee for Teacher of the Year three separate times in Cabarrus County Schools â her love for teaching is impossible to miss. âAs a teacher you canât ever get content with where you are or even how youâre communicating or how youâre teaching,â she said. âYou have to keep working at it.â Every single one of her 35 years as an educator has come at Central Cabarrus High School and for the schoolâs principal â a man who has also been a student at the school during Hicksâ tenure â no one exemplifies the best of the best more than Hicks as a teacher and as a person. ....
Thomas Lott CONCORD â The fact that Beverly Hills STEM Elementary second-grade teacher Tabitha Paisley says she always feels âlike a newbieâ really drives home her principalâs praise of her. âSheâs probably one of the most humble people that we have on our staff,â Richie Wells said. âAs good as she is sheâs not going to be the one to talk about it.â One of six nominees for the 2020-21 Cabarrus County Teacher of the Year, Paisley said she was a little âintimidatedâ when she found out she had not only earned the nomination for her school but also for the entire district. But according to Wells, there could have been no better representative at Beverly Hills this year. ....
From Staff Reports Former Cabarrus County Schools Superintendent Dr. Chris Lowder s former Board members and colleagues, and other friends, are honoring his 30-year career serving CCS through the formation of two scholarships. One scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who has attended CCS for at least their full senior year, and is enrolled in a certificate or degree program for the 2021-22 academic year. The second will be awarded to a staff member who has been employed by CCS since at least the prior July 1 and is enrolled in a certificate or degree program relevant to their career in CCS. Each award is expected to be for $1,000, payable to the educational institution, with the goal to provide the two scholarships each year for at least five years. ....
