The Compassion Center has opened its doors to anyone needing a warm place to stay no matter what time of the day. Around 100 people can stay there at a time. The Compassion Center has opened up its dining room and TV lounge area to keep people fed and occupied during the day, but COVID-19 has created some changes for the facility. ....

The first COVID-19 vaccines for frontline health care workers in central Arkansas were administered this week, providing a spark of hope even as cases continue to soar. On Thursday, Arkansas reported a record-breaking 3,039 new cases. As of this writing, the U.S. was expected to add a second vaccine to its arsenal, developed by Moderna. The Federal Food and Drug Administration already approved the vaccine developed by Pfizer-BioNTech, which is what some central Arkansas health care workers were vaccinated with this week. ....

As temperatures are dropping and coronavirus infection numbers are rising, the Conway Ministry Center opens its warming center Dec. 16. The center, opening at the Don Owen Sports Complex on the north side of Conway, will provide beds, as well as meals, hygiene including showers, and support for those needing to come in out of the cold. It will remain open through February, operating from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. seven nights a week. The center has a capacity of roughly 75. The number fluctuates based upon how many families arrive with children, Ministry Center Executive Director Spring Hunter said. Hunter, busily putting final touches on the space the final day before opening, said the center provides segmented areas for men, women and families. Last year the center was able to support 233 people including 17 families and 23 children, she said. ....
