An Arab Israeli man was shot and killed and two others were wounded during protests and riots by local Arab residents overnight Monday-Tuesday in the central city of Lod. A Jewish suspect in the shooting was arrested.
The violent protest, during which Arab participants raised Palestinian and Hamas flags, called to “liberate Palestine,” and attacked a school, a synagogue, a pre-army military academy and city hall, according to Israel Radio, was one of several large demonstrations in Arab communities. ....

YERUSHALAYIM -
Police activity in establishing order in Segev Shalom and on Road 25.
As Israel and Hamas traded aerial assaults on Monday night, violence spread on the ground across the north as Arab Israelis protested police actions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Har Habayis.
At least 15 protesters were arrested as thousands took to the streets in Nazareth, Haifa, Shfaram, Segev Shalom and in smaller towns such as Eksal, Kafr Manda, and Nahaf.
Demonstrators threw rocks, shot fireworks, and hurled bottles, the police said, according to The Jerusalem Post.
In Kafr Kanna, a Jewish Israeli who entered the town was “violently attacked” by some residents before others escorted him away. ....

Thank you, residents of Al-Quds - Opinion

When all is said and done, historians will write that fascism was held at bay in Israel thanks to the steadfast position of the residents of East Jerusalem. Suleiman Maswadeh, a reporter for the Kan Public Broadcaster’s Channel 11, asks a young settler if she identifies with the slogans “Death to the Arabs” and “We will burn the village down,” and she says she is trying to speak politely, but when Maswadeh pushes her a little further she simply replies that the Arabs must leave the village so we can live there.
The young settler’s remarks fail to leave an impression on veteran military reporter Ron Ben-Yishai, and his learned commentary on Ynet, for some reason, does not even so much as mention the increasing ethnic cleansing that is slowly creeping through Sheikh Jarrah. Not a word about the residents there who experienced the massive deportation in ‘48, and the specter of the second deportation that is currently hovering over them. ....

Palestinians protest Israeli policies and settler attacks in the south Hebron Hills as soldiers look on, January 2, 2021. (WAFA)
Palestinian witnesses to a shooting by Israeli troops on Friday that reportedly left a 24-year-old Palestinian man paralyzed disputed the army’s account that a violent, massive demonstration had preceded the shooting.
Haroun Abu Aram, 24, was shot in the neck by an Israeli soldier during a scuffle over a generator allegedly used in illegal construction. Abu Aram, who witnesses said was unarmed, was engaged in a tug-of-war over the electric generator with the troops seeking to confiscate it.
The Palestinian Health Ministry later said that Abu Aram was left paralyzed from the neck down following the shooting. According to witnesses on the scene, a soldier fired at the car which sought to take Abu Aram to a nearby hospital, puncturing one of the tires. ....
