Parliament summons ministers over BoG advances, KIA coronavirus testing

Parliament has summoned Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, the Minister of Finance, to appear before it next Wednesday to brief members on the amount of temporary advances the Bank of Ghana gave to the government for the 2020 Financial Year.
The question to be asked by the Minority Leader and MP for Tamale South, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, is one of four Urgent Questions for which sector ministers are expected to provide answers.
An Urgent Question requires a government minister to come to the chamber of Parliament to provide an immediate answer without prior notice.
An MP can apply to the Speaker for an urgent question if he or she thinks a matter is urgent and important, and there is unlikely to be another way of raising it in the House. ....

GPHA Has Conducted 768 COVID-19 Test


 
The 768 COVID-19 tests, conducted by the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) between May 2020 and May 4, 2021, at the country’s port of disembarking (Off Signing) crew members, recorded 14 positives and 754 negatives.
“COVID-19 tests are conducted at the country’s seaport regularly, those who will test positive are treated at designated isolation and treatment centres and subsequently discharged,” Mrs Esther Gyebi-Donkor, GPHA General Manager, Marketing and Corporate Affairs stated in a statement issued and copied to the Ghana News Agency at Tema.
Mrs Gyebi-Donkor indicated that; “there are clear and mandatory procedures for the reception of vessels and handling of crew embarkation and disembarkation in Ghana, which all shipping lines and the Port Community is apprised of and are adhering to. ....

Oboshie Sai-Cofie Gets Appointment


 
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed former Minister of Information in the erstwhile President John Kufuor administration, Oboshie Sai-Cofie, as his advisor on media and strategic communications.
Her appointment, according to Asaase News’ Jubilee House sources, signals the seriousness the President attaches to the government’s media relations and engagement during its second term. 
The source also disclosed that in addition to advising the President on the media, she would have a special role in engaging civil society organizations (CSOs) on key government initiatives that may directly or indirectly play a critical role in national development.
Mrs. Sai-Cofie, as part of her new portfolio, is expected to work closely with the Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, and the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin. ....
