Maritime hospital accredited to run PCR tests

The International Maritime Hospital (IMaH) has received accreditation by the Foods and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Health Facilities Regulation Agency (HEFRA) to commence in-house COVID-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests.
The hospital’s accreditation followed what the facility’s management said was the limited capacity of the public health system in the Tema Metropolis to cope with the rise in COVID-19 cases in the metropolis and surrounding areas.
According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the IMaH, Dr Yaw Oppong, the hospital had since January 1 to February 26, recorded 135 COVID-19 cases out of which 19 have died.
He said considering the rise in cases of the disease, the hospital had committed its 30-bed capacity in both male and female wards into a treatment arena for COVID-19 patients. ....

CBG Donates To Two Institutions In The Ashanti Region, KNUST And SDA Hospital


 
In line with its commitment to help in the fight against COVID-19 in Ghana, Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) has made donations to two institutions in the Ashanti region. The items include 50 laptops to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and hospital equipment to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church (SDA) hospital at Breman.
The donation of the laptops to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is to support needy but brilliant students during the COVID-19 period. The donation also forms part of the bank’s regional CSR activities and commitment to support selected institutions.
Commenting on the donation, Emmanuel Nikoi, Director of Retail and Business Banking at CBG, said: “Evidently, COVID-19 has affected the traditional mode of teaching and learning. To curb the virus from spreading in institutions, the ideal way is to emphasize on virtual or contactless class sessions, and this cannot be achieved without digital p ....

Coronavirus A Year On: Prominent People Who Have Died From The Pandemic In Ghana


 
On March 12, 2020, Ghana recorded its first cases of coronavirus when two passengers who arrived via the airport tested positive for the virus.
Since then till today, over 87,700 cases have been recorded out of which over 81,200 patients have recovered but sadly 685 persons have succumbed to the virus.
A number of prominent persons have contracted the virus and openly declared their status with the view to combat stigmatization. Others however succumbed to the virus.
