A rustle of dry leaves, distant subdued growls and an occasional splash of water are the only sounds that can be heard on a hot sultry day at the Arignar Anna Zoological Park (AAZP), popularly known as Vandalur zoo, in Chennai. The gross mismanagement of all authorities concerned has led to deaths of protected species animals at a zoo in the heart of the city, underscoring the irony of urban officials being unable to prevent an incident that usually takes place in the wild.

An official said that the
blackbuck died of shock.
Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park is located at
Katraj in Pune. As per reports, an official stated that the stray dogs sneaked into the zoo and got inside the enclosures of the blackbucks. Among the dead, two were male and the other two were female. Another blackbuck was injured in the incident and was bitten by the dogs.
The official also stated that the security guards immediately went inside the enclosure and drove out the dogs.
