Sometime in 1998, a team of 15 women lawyers smiling for the camera immortalised a moment.
They were members of the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), which chiseled its name by standing for the marginalised by prosecuting their cases even when powerful forces wanted such violations hushed up.
Fida sent chills down the spines of many deadbeat fathers and those accused of battering their wives and children. ....

Mt Kenya MPs allied to Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday, April 22, issued fresh demands to him ahead of the 2022 presidential election which they believe he will win.
Following a meeting at Kikuyu MP s Kimani Ichungwa s home, the lawmakers sought to re-negotiate their terms with the second in command.
They stated that the terms would centre around economic empowerment for people in the mountain and their political positions in government if he won the election. ....

Residents in Murang a county took matters into their own hands when they had to work for free to aid the government to complete a water project in their locality.
The residents from two villages in Kandara sub-county dug trenches of more than 17 KMs to facilitate the laying of the water pipes so as to have water supply in their homesteads.
The government had allocated Ksh80 Million for the procurement of pipes. However, no money had been set aside for the labour costs of the projects. ....

Kitili Mwendwa: First Kenyan Chief Justice at 39

An idea whose time has come is unstoppable.
A few weeks before July 1968, when this picture was taken, nobody would have thought that Kitili Maluki Mwendwa, 39, would be the first African Chief Justice.
This became a reality after the acting Chief Justice Arthur Denis Farrel, rubbed President Jomo Kenyatta the wrong way. His crime was reducing the one-year jail term handed over to bearded Bildad Kaggia to six months. Kaggia, who was the MP for Kandara, had earned his ticket to hell for contradicting Kenyatta’s policies and joining forces with then Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga. Once Farell was out of the way, Kitili took over as the Chief Justice after a solemn ceremony attended by Kenyatta himself and then Attorney General Charles Njonjo. ....
