Queensland’s chief health officer, Jeannette Young, has rejected concerns from fellow health experts that she “undermined” confidence in the national Covid vaccine program, a day after voicing strong opposition to people under 40 receiving the AstraZeneca jab.
Queensland reported two new community cases of Covid-19 on Thursday. One is linked to a known cluster and the other is a check-in worker at the Brisbane international airport, who is considered “low risk” to have further transmitted the virus.
South-east Queensland, Townsville, Magnetic Island and Palm Island remain in a three-day lockdown, which authorities are confident can be lifted on Friday evening. ....

'Very encouraging' news as Queensland records two more local COVID-19 cases


QLD records two more local COVID-19 cases
Ms Palaszczuk said it was encouraging news for Queenslanders hoping lockdown will end at 6pm on Friday but they were not out of the woods yet.
We ve still got another 24 hours to go to see what happens . and we ll update you tomorrow in relation to whether or not we can leave that lockdown, she told reporters on Thursday morning.
But like I said, it is very very encouraging for us at this stage.

Four new Queensland COVID cases, one worked at airport check-in counter


“We’re not out of the woods yet, we’ve got another 24 hours to go to see what happens over the next 24 hours, and we’ll update you tomorrow in relation to whether or not we can lift that lockdown,” she said on Thursday.
“But it is very, very encouraging news at this stage.”
The receptionist’s brother tested positive earlier this week but three other contacts have tested negative.
However, Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said it was too early to be confident there would not be more cases connected to the hospital receptionist.
