Albert “Al” R. Simon, 87, of Williamsport, passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021 at Manor Care North, Williamsport.
Born in New York City on March 22, 1933, Al was the son of the late Lester and Ada (Warner) Simon. He graduated from Sunbury High School in 1950 and then graduated from New York University in 1954 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Al and his parents were the longtime owners/managers of Tops-All stores, and Al happily retired in 1999.
He was a member of Temple Beth Ha Sholom and the YMCA. Al passionately pursued fitness his entire life. He was an amateur boxer in the 1950s and then became a tennis player and golfer until ultimately finding his favorite sport, racquetball, which he played into his late ’70s. Beyond his time on the racquetball court, Al did countless push-ups, sit-ups and stretches as well as swimming regularly and riding his bike up and down the hills of Williamsport’s East End. From the Archives: Skeletons found in 1924 still a mystery


WINCHESTER – Following the discovery of the human bones at Dartmouth Street, the question arises, has anything like this ever happened before?
As a matter of fact, yes. On April 29, 1924, workmen digging in a gravel pit off Wickford Road discovered two human skeletons. According to the Winchester Star, “the bones were buried about two feet beneath the topsoil and had evidently been in the ground for many years. Nothing was found near the bones, there being no trace of coffins or pieces of metal.”
The police were called and removed the skeletons to the police station. Never identified, the skeletons were buried in the Common Ground at Wildwood Cemetery. ....

Louis E. “Lou” Hunsinger Sr., 86, of Williamsport, died at home on Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, surrounded by his loving family and friends after an extended illness. He was born June 23, 1934 in Williamsport, a son of the late Bruce H. and Helen (Hawk) Hunsinger. On May 26, 1956, he married Doris Nance, who survives.
Lou graduated from Williamsport High School, Class of 1952 and from the Williamsport Technical Institute in 1959 with a degree in business management. He was honored by Williamsport Area Community College as “Alumnus of the Year” in 1977.
He served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 57 and the Civil Air Patrol from 1949 to 1980. He served as squadron commander of CAP Squadron 401 from 1966 to 1970, before being promoted to Group 40 Staff, and later as a member of the Pennsylvania Wing Staff. He retired with the rank of major. He was honored with Civil Air Patrol’s Meritorious Service Award in 1973 for his work duri ....
