New Jersey Herald HARDWICK A tractor-trailer started a fire when it veered off Route 80 and crashed into the woods within the Delaware Water Gap during mid-morning Thursday. The truck and the wooded area caught fire near the Dunfield Creek parking lot, witnesses said. The state Forest Fire Service and local volunteers responded and quickly had that blaze under control. The fire spread minimally into the vegetation on the road shoulder/parking lot of Dunnefield Creek, which is part of Worthington State Forest. The fire is out, and the scene is under control, read a statement from the Forest Fire Service. ....
Uncooperative witnesses stymie Lakewood, NJ wildfire arson case LAKEWOOD The investigation into who set a wildfire along the Garden State Parkway in March is at an impasse because of uncooperative witnesses. Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer. said the fire was intentionally set but has not disclosed details about how the fire started or a motive for starting it. He said on Monday that investigators have reached an impasse because nearly five dozen potential witnesses will not speak. Detectives have attempted to interview approximately 60 potential witnesses and reviewed video recordings from cameras in proximity to the fire, Billhimer said in a written statement. The vast majority of these potential witnesses have been less than cooperative with our investigation, and as such, we are currently at an impasse at this point in time. ....

Firefighters have a good handle on two major wildfires that have burned through a combined 1,000 acres in Burlington and Ocean counties during the past two days. Smoky conditions, however, are expected to remain in Ocean County. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service said Tuesday afternoon the fire in the Brendan T. Byrne State Forest in Pemberton Township, which burned 407 acres, is 50% contained. It was first reported around 10:20 p.m. Monday night.
