Special Olympics torch runners enjoy clear day

Fresh air, clear skies and a lit torch rallied about 75 people to the starting line Saturday morning for a 3-mile run in support of the island’s Special Olympians.
Led by a torch-bearer Kaleb Parker, 15, runners started at Kodiak High School and set off on the run along Rezanof Drive, over the Fred Zharoff Memorial Bridge to Near Island and Trident Basin, and back again.
As runners continued the course to Near Island, the torch was passed to members of law enforcement.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run and Pledge Drive for Special Olympics serves a dual purpose: to show support by Kodiak’s law enforcement for the Special Olympics program and to help raise money for it. ....
