The total active cases reported in the last 24 hours in Pune district stands at 10,907, bringing the total number of active cases in the district to 6,04,037 till date. In Pune district, the Pune Municipal Corporation recorded 5,651 cases and 2,784 in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation limits. The total number of fresh active cases in Pune rural is 1791, in councils 533 and in cantonment 148. From among the active cases 19,907 are in hospital isolation and 64,619 are in home isolation. The total number of recovered cases on Wednesday are 7,832 and 5,09,278 till date in the district. In 1877, a famine struck Maharashtra, affecting hundreds of thousands. The Phule couple appealed to the people for help and trudged from village to village collecting donations in cash and kind. With the help of friends like Dr Shivappa, they established the Victoria Balashram at Dhankawadi. The ashram provided meals to more than a thousand poor and needy people every day. Savitribai helped with the management of the ashram. She also visited the famine-hit areas along with workers of the Satyashodhak Samaj.
