Authorities struggling to ensure adherence to SOPs on Eid - Newspaper

PESHAWAR: Coronavirus has claimed 24 more lives and infected 413 others in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as chief secretary has convened a zoom meeting of the commissioners on Wednesday (today) to ensure full adherence to the precautionary measures during Eidul Fitr.
Officials said that Chief Secretary Dr Kazim Niaz would instruct all the commissioners regarding the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in line with the guidelines issued by National Command and Operation Centre for Eid.

They said that health department was concerned about non-compliance with SOPs, especially in the high risk districts. They said that the department would issue directives to the district administrations to take stern action against the violators of the SOPs. ....

PESHAWAR: A meeting of the Provincial Task Force on COVID-19 here on Thursday with KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan in the chair decided to ensure a strict implementation of the decisions taken by National Command and Operation Centre on the lockdown from 8 to 16 May 2021.
Ministers Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Shahram Tarakai, Shaukat Yousafzai, Special Assistant to CM Kamran Bangash, Chief Secretary Kazim Niaz, Inspector General Police Sanaullah Abbasi, Corps Commander Nauman Mahmood and other relevant officials attended the meeting.
The participants decided that all the business and markets would remain closed during the said period except for the exemptions given to essential service providers whereas Jummat-ul-Wida and Eid prayers would be performed under strict standard operating procedures (SOPs). ....

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan ordered the authorities concerned to ensure strict lockdown from May 8 to May 16 in line with the recommendations of National Command and Operation Centre as the province recorded 40 deaths and 792 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday.
The chief minister told a meeting of provincial task force on Covid-19 that all the business and markets would remain closed except the exempted outlets providing essential services, according to a statement.
The meeting, attended by provincial ministers Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Shahram Tarakai, Shaukat Yousafzai and Kamran Bangash and Corps Commander Peshawar Lt Gen Nauman Mahmood, Chief Secretary Dr Kazim Niaz and Inspector General of Police Dr Sanaullah Abbasi, also decided that Jummatul Wida and Eid prayers would be performed under strict standard operating procedure. ....

Chief secretary visits Peshawar's Eidgah, orders halt to extension work - Newspaper

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Kazim Niaz visited Peshawar’s historic Eidgah and directed that all unplanned extension work at the heritage site should be stopped immediately.
The work on the site had been stopped earlier by the archaeology department as the unplanned extension damaged the façade and architecture of the heritage building. Further restoration would be carried under supervision of the directorate of archaeology.
According to a press release issued here on Saturday, the chief secretary directed the Auqaf department to revise the project to cater to restoration, conservation and rehabilitation of the existing 110 years old building.
The Eidgah was under imminent threat of being defaced as plans are underway to construct a large concrete structure adjacent to its building. ....

PESHAWAR: Chief Secretary Khyber, Pakhtunkhwa Dr Kazim Niaz on Friday ordered a high- level inquiry into the allegations and complaints against the provincial housing department for selecting a bank for the mega housing project in Jalozai.
The chief secretary had already extended the deadline for submission of the application forms for the project as the majority of the applicants complained against the slow process of work at the bank.
A two-member commission with Abid Majeed, a senior civil servant serving as secretary to the government, as chairman and special secretary of the finance department Ayaz Khan as member has been constituted with very elaborate terms of reference (TORs). The committee has been directed to submit its report within 15 days. ....
