New fundraising numbers filed for Senate candidates battling to succeed Burr - Carolina Journal

Both former Governor Pat McCrory and Congressman Ted Budd can claim some positive momentum in their campaigns for U.S. Senate after 2nd quarter fundraising totals were posted Thursday, July 15. McCrory outperformed all his primary opponents in the North Carolina race, raising $1,237,000 from April through June of this year.
The Budd for Senate campaign brought in $700,000 during the second quarter. Partially due to a million-dollar transfer from his U.S. House committee and a $250,000 loan, Budd shows $1.7 million cash-on-hand. Budd loaned his campaign $250,000 on the last day of the reporting period, June 30.
But despite Budd’s high-profile endorsement from former President Donald Trump, McCrory outraised the former congressman by more than half a million dollars in the second quarter. The new reporting shows McCrory with $955,000 cash on hand.  Some of McCrory’s donors include Angus Barn CEO Van Eure, former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, Salisbury attorney Bill Gr ....

Trump endorses Budd for 2022 U.S. Senate bid - Carolina Journal

Speaking to a sold-out N.C. Republican Party Convention fundraiser, former President Donald Trump made an early endorsement in the 2022 primary for U.S. Senate, choosing 13th District Congressman Ted Budd over former Congressman Mark Walker and former Gov. Pat McCrory.
“This gentleman is going to be your next senator,” Trump said of Budd. “He is going to be someone you are so proud of. He will fight like hell, and a lot of you people don’t know him that well yet, but you will in about two minutes Ted Budd.”
As Trump called Budd to the convention stage, he added, “I am giving him my complete and total endorsement. We are going to work with him. We are going to campaign with him.” ....

Creating his own lane in race for U.S. Senate, Mark Walker is enjoying the ride - Carolina Journal

In a 25-minute sermon at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Wilson, former Congressman Mark Walker looks right at home. Walker is a preacher and a preacher’s son. His sermon is faith-based, not political. He asks congregants to turn to Matthew 16:24-25:
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.”
“Many times, in politics and in the church, we are content with only making an argument, and not making a difference,” preached Walker, who says God has called us to sacrifice and work to spread the gospel and help our fellow man in a way that reflects a Christ-like life. ....
