Twenty new totems to help town visitors find their way

TWENTY new wayfinding totems have been installed across Poole town centre, in a bid to encourage residents to walk or cycle instead of using their cars. The totems, which provide information about the town and maps maps, direct people to key destinations such as the bus and rail stations, hospital, stadium, ferry port, Dolphin Shopping Centre, leisure centre, high street and Poole Quay. Councillor Mike Greene, BCP Council’s portfolio holder for transport said: “The wayfinding totems are a good example of how we are investing our central government-funded Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) grant to help transform travel in south east Dorset.

Bournemouth commuters set for greener travel options

New cycle and pedestrian paths proposed THE installation of upgraded cycle and foot paths through Kings Park is set to get underway, thanks to a government grant. Starting in late July, the work will be funded through cash from the government’s Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) and will form part of an 8km ‘sustainable travel route’ between Bournemouth railway station and Jumpers Common in Christchurch. Councillor Mike Greene, transport portfolio holder for BCP Council, said: “Kings Park is an important location connecting Christchurch and Bournemouth.  These planned improvements will really open up sustainable travel as a viable, attractive, healthy and safe way to commute between these areas.  

Steel canopy at The Arcade in Bournemouth is coming down

WORK to remove the steel canopy from outside The Arcade in Bournemouth town centre is set to start next week. Engineers will remove the 30-year-old structure in Old Christchurch Road, which BCP Council says has become corroded and now poses a health risk because of the pigeons that roost there. Councillor Mike Greene, member for transport and sustainability – and town centre ward member – said: We understand that some people may have affection for the canopy however removal is by far the best and most cost-effective option for the area. We look forward to providing shoppers with a more enhanced experience when they visit this part of Bournemouth town centre.”
