A STREET named in honour of a soldier who was killed in action has been officially unveiled today. Skippys Close was opened at the site of a new development of four houses and a remodified Grade-3 listed cottage, off Abb Scott Lane, in Low Moor. The street name is in honour of Sergeant Peter Anthony Rayner - nicknamed Skippy - from 2nd Battalion The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, who was killed while serving in Afghanistan in October 2010. Plans for the tribute were first touted back in 2019 and a group of his former comrades, including Wesley Owens (pictured top left), his family, members of the British Legion, and Craig Carter (pictured top middle), the builder of the development, were at the unveiling ceremony on Friday morning, at 11.30am. ....

Recent years have seen Freeman Grattan set up a new headquarters in one of the area’s many listed buildings, the unveiling of a huge mural of David Hockney, made out of tens of thousands of nails, and the announcement that a new Coroner’s Court will be opening in a building on Cater Street. ....

While much of the Council s fleet is likely to switch from petrol to electric in the coming years, larger vehicles will soon be powered by compressed gas. And at the most recent meeting of Bradford Council s Corporate Scrutiny Committee members were told that it was hoped that these gas powered vehicles would arrive in Bradford in late 2021. The Committee was discussing plans to create a new advanced fuel centre at the Council s Bowling Back Lane waste site. The site would tap into the existing gas network to create a fuelling station for the new green vehicle fleet. ....
