Options for Lochwinnoch Post Office to be considered by council

RENFREWSHIRE Council is investigating whether a new community Post Office for Lochwinnoch could be based in one of its buildings.
It was announced earlier this month the Post Office inside the village Spar shop would be closing in March.
The move has caused outrage among residents who now face travelling to Johnstone, Beith or Kilburnie to collect or send parcels.
And for those who don’t drive, the journey will be even more awkward with no public transport links from the village to Beith or Kilburnie and only one bus an hour heading to Johnstone.
But an answer to villagers’ prayers could be on the horizon, as local authority chiefs have revealed they are looking at options for basing a new Post Office from a council-owned site. ....

Consultation for more safety on road where two elderly women were knocked down

A consultation will be launched on introducing more safety measures at a notoriously dangerous Johnstone junction, council chiefs have insisted.
Two elderly women were knocked down at the town centre junction of Walkinshaw Street and High Street in October, with one of them tragically losing her life and the other receiving extensive treatment in hospital.
Roads chiefs came under pressure last month from campaigning Johnstone councillor Andy Doig to ask the community whether they felt the crossroads should be made safer after the horror collision.
With the junction being surrounded by a sheltered housing complex and home to the town’s main Post Office, there are a high number of pensioners using it and Councillor Doig claimed pedestrians need to have “eyes in the back of their head” when crossing the road. ....
