RESIDENTS in Fordingbridge have called for more benches and parking, as well as better maintenance of pavements and overgrown hedges and trees. During October 2020 Fordingbridge Town Council conducted a survey to find out what improvements people wanted to see. The council’s annual town meeting on April 22 heard that there had been 430 responses. Deputy mayor, Councillor Anna Wilson, said these responses highlighted “several problems of importance” with calls for more benches, and maintenance of overgrown hedges, trees and footpaths, as well as more parking, lighting and concerns about the road in High Street. She said a trailway in the town was “hugely popular” and “one of the biggest things people voted on”. ....
PLANS for a new roundabout and access road in Fordingbridge have sparked concerns over the loss of an area of greenspace as well as pollution concerns. Fordingbridge Town Council’s planning committee held an extraordinary meeting to discuss an application by Pennyfarthing Homes Ltd for a residential development, change of use of land to Alternative Natural Recreational Greenspace and other on-site infrastructure at Whitsbury Road. The plan for the Whitsbury Road site Whitsbury Road (site 17) is earmarked for development in New Forest District Council’s Local Plan. As part of the plans a new roundabout on Whitsbury Road would be created and a bridge across Sweatford Water as well as crossings for pedestrians and cyclists. ....
A COUNCILLOR has warned a “tsunami of traffic” could be headed to Fordingbridge with future housing developments on the horizon. Three areas of the town have been earmarked for development in New Forest District Council’s Local Plan. The sites combined would bring forward a total of at least 870 homes. They are located at Station Road, Ashford (Site 16), Whitsbury Road (Site 17) and land at Burgate (Site 18). Fordingbridge Town Council’s planning committee held an extraordinary meeting to consider two applications from Pennyfarthing Homes Ltd relating to Site 17. A proposal for 63 homes at Tinkers Cross and an outline application for land to west of Whitsbury Road, which could eventually site 400 homes. ....
