STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. –– A gleaming new pavilion the result of a $6.5 million renovation effort was unveiled Tuesday at Conference House Park.
The 3,000 square foot open-air pavilion rests upon the piles of the original structure, which was built in 1935 in Tottenville, the southernmost point of New York State. Over the years, the pavilion was worn down by storms. The Parks Department closed it in 2011 due to extensive damage that it endured during Hurricane Irene. ....

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. A dedicated mother and a giving community member.
That is how family members and elected officials described and remembered MaryLou Cerqua Saturday morning as they dedicated the intersection of Hylan Boulevard and Wiman Avenue in Great Kills in her name five years after a tragic pedestrian crash took her life.
“She always gave unconditional love to myself, my brother, Christopher, and my sister, Jennifer,” Cerqua’s son, Robert, said as the sun came out for a brief moment.
“It’s a sign,” he joked. ....

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. One of the borough’s most infamous roadways will be closed for cleaning next week and local elected officials are looking for your help.
Councilman Steven Matteo (R-Mid-Island) and Councilman Joseph Borelli (R-South Shore) have partnered with the New York City Parks Department to clean up Snake Hill Road, a portion of Richmond Hill Road, from the entrance to LaTourette Golf Course to Arthur Kill Road and Historic Richmond Town, that’s earned its nickname from its steep incline and winding roadway. ....
