NEWS ANALYSIS There’s this $45 million middle school going up out in the eastern sticks of Peachtree City, and it already has a traffic problem.
Here’s the problem: Nobody can figure out a good way to get lots and lots of buses and cars and students and teachers into and later, out of the new school, due for completion in December of this year.
You might ask: Why didn’t somebody think of this traffic problem before buying the property behind the Peachtree City United Methodist Church currently reachable only via a privately owned dirt road and a two-lane neighborhood street and then building a multi-million dollar facility using mostly money raised by a local option sales tax? ....

Study finds Delco prison deprivatization financially feasible

As Delaware County continues to move forward with its effort to deprivatize the George W. Hill Correctional Facility, a long-awaited financial feasibility study was presented Thursday to the county’s Jail Oversight Board. The goal of the assessment was to compare the potential costs of deprivatization with the status quo.
“We believe the evidence clearly demonstrates deprivatization is feasible, and the initiative will not place the county at significant financial risk and, in fact, has the potential to reduce current costs,” Karl Becker, senior vice president of CGL Cos., told the board. ....

Frustration continues to rise as COVID vaccine supplies lag

Delaware County has been receiving, on average, approximately 1,000 doses of COVID vaccine from the state weekly - a rate that would take more than 10 years to vaccinate every Delco resident.
And that was until last week, when Delaware County received no vaccines at all, causing officials to cancel second-dose vaccine appointments that had been scheduled for Saturday.

In Peachtree City’s first Zoom annexation, the City Council Thursday night unanimously approved the annexation and rezoning of 46 acres on the city’s southern tip to permit the construction of 74 homes on 39 acres of the parcel.

The applicant, Steve Moore, made his case for the annexation from his office in McDonough, displayed on the big screen in the council chambers at City Hall. He said the houses will be constructed by Jeff Lindsey Communities of Senoia. ....
