Two men head to Gaston court as two families prepare funerals
Six people - the oldest just 22, the youngest a 16-year-old girl - reportedly were part of a meetup in western Gaston County last week on a cold, rainy February night where the purpose included the sale of marijuana.
Before the clock struck midnight on Feb. 18, two of the men - Robert Lucas Luke Gibby, 22, of Bessemer City, and Adam Kale Wood, 19, of Kings Mountain - would be dead.
Shot in the back, according to Gaston County Assistant District Attorney Chad Smith.
Another man, 21-year-old Todd Payton Lee Waggoner of Winston-Salem, would be shot four times, possibly only surviving because he played dead, according to his Charlotte attorney Ryan Ames. ....

Gaston district attorney says protest ordinance unenforceable.

Gaston County District Attorney Locke Bell took issue Wednesday with a proposed county mass gathering ordinance commissioners could consider later this month.
Bell cited jurisdictional and enforcement concerns related to the ordinance, which seeks to impose a fee on those who organize a protest or any other type of mass gathering of more than 25 people.
They have not thought this thing through, Bell said. If 25 kids want to get together around the flag pole at school and pray, does that mean they ll have to get a permit? If 25 kids want to gather at a football field, on county property, and pray before a game will they need a permit? What about the National Day of Prayer? ....

Gaston DA warns troubled club
Gaston County District Attorney Locke Bell warned a Union Road restaurant and night club last month that it was in danger of being deemed a nuisance following a shooting that injured six people.
That warning is as far as Bell said he s gone on Wednesday with regard to Remedies Restaurant and Night Club. Remedies, at 1225 Union Road, was the site of a shooting and its chaotic aftermath on Nov. 12. Two Gastonia Police officers were injured in the gunfire, along with four other patrons.
Police later charged Alonzo Lewis Hamilton, 30, and Allen Slaughter, 29, both of Charlotte, each with six counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon in the incident. ....
