Officials Urge a Return to Mask Wearing

Dangerous Delta variant leads to rising cases. Local officials recommend masks at indoor public places. By Graham Kilmer - Jul 27th, 2021 04:43 pm //end headline wrapper ?>Mask. (Pixabay License). Public health officials are asking residents to once again wear masks when they are inside public spaces. At a joint city-county media briefing Tuesday, Mayor Tom Barrett said that Milwaukee residents should begin wearing masks once again when they are indoors in public places. The city is not planning to issue a new mask mandate, the mayor said, but, “We certainly have the hope that Milwaukeeans will embrace masks once more.” This is in line with the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which says that everyone, regardless of vaccination status, should wear a mask when indoors in areas experiencing substantial or high transmission.

Milwaukee officials look toward a return to widespread masking

View Comments Elected and health officials are encouraging a return to more widespread mask-wearing as concerns about rising cases and the spreading delta variant grow. The state s case numbers have been on an upward trajectory, reaching nearly 1,000 new cases Monday, according to the state Department of Health Services.  In Milwaukee, Mayor Tom Barrett on Tuesday recommended that all Milwaukeeans wear masks in groups and in indoor settings outside their homes because of transmission of COVID-19 even among some vaccinated people. Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, too, announced a return to more stringent masking requirements for county employees, calling the pace at which cases are increasing in the county “alarming.”
