Rezin files FOIA request regarding LaSalle Veterans' Home COVID-19 outbreak

SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Sue Rezin announced Wednesday that she has filed an Illinois Freedom of Information Act request with the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs for communications related to the COVID-19 outbreak at the LaSalle Veterans’ Home.  The filing asks for not only all communication between state officials and the home regarding the pandemic, but documentation showing the number of applicants and awards for a Pandemic Health Navigator Grant.

“It has been three months since the COVID outbreak first started at the LaSalle Veterans’ Home, and yesterday it was announced that another resident has tested positive for the virus,” said Sen. CHICAGO –The State of Illinois today announced a series of events and resources planned during February’s National Black History Month to recognize the important contributions of Black businesses in Illinois’ economy, and to promote efforts aimed at supporting their continued growth in the years ahead. The Prairie State took $31.5 million from cannabis tax revenue to support social justice initiatives.
According to Marijuana Moment, $28.3 million will be granted to service delivery, while $3.1 million will be used to sponsor “assessment and planning initiatives,”
Illinois officials provided the grant money to communities that have been negatively affected by the war on drugs. These funds are contained in the state’s Restore, Reinvest, and Renew (R3) program that was formed in accordance with Illinois adult-use cannabis legalization law.
Some 25% of cannabis tax dollars must be placed in that fund to further support those deprived of legal assistance and finances, or in need of community reentry.   ....
