SYDNEY (Reuters) - A dance troupe’s performance at an Australian Navy event created a furore on Thursday as initial criticism over apparent twerking at dignitaries turned into a story of inaccurate media coverage and criticism of the national broadcaster by the prime minister.
The Defence Department found itself in hot water over reports of inappropriate entertainment at the commissioning of a A$2 billion ($1.5 billion) naval ship in Sydney last weekend.
A seven-woman troupe dressed in black shorts, red crop tops and berets performed a dance routine that included twerking in front of the auxiliary vessel, HMAS Supply, on April 10, according to footage shown by the Australian Broadcasting Corp (ABC) on Wednesday. ....

Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says there are still questions about how the ABC’s “dishonest reporting” managed to pass the “editorial test” after the national broadcaster issued an apology over doctored footage of female navy dancers.
The ABC’s footage falsely indicated Governor-General David Hurley was present at an event where a group of female dancers were ‘twerking’ in front of a new $2 billion naval ship.
A statement from a governor-general spokesperson, responding to the footage, said “The performance occurred before the Governor General arrived. The presentation of the video to suggest otherwise is disappointing”. ....

The Project host and other panellists were criticising the unfair treatment of the young woman in the 101Doll Squadron who have been harassed online after their risqué performance at the unveiling of the HMAS Supply in Sydney on Saturday.
