MAY is National Walking Month and Bradford Council is encouraging people to enjoy the health benefits of walking at the same time as exploring the district’s great scenery. Many people have taken up walking during the pandemic and with the longer days and better weather, this interest is likely to continue. The Council’s website has a number of downloadable self-guided walks. These take in beauty spots across the district. These include moorlands, canal towpaths, woodland and for something a little different, a ‘Fungus Foray’ at Raw Nook Nature Reserve or ‘Four Pubs and a Sewage Works’ from Apperley Bridge. ....

Department of Environmental Quality has approved the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority’s application for a $4.59 million low-interest loan for two major projects. “The State Water Infrastructure Authority announced this month that CFPUA’s application, submitted in September 2020, was approved to receive loan funding through the Clean Water State Revolving Fund,” CFPUA said in a news release. “These loans are a key part of securing funding for CFPUA’s Capital Improvement Plan, which prioritizes replacement and rehabilitation of aging infrastructure.” ....

When Sanders thinks about Black History Month, he thinks of his long military career, which presented both opportunities including nuclear and chemical specialization - and hurdles. Eye on history Sanders attended a segregated school growing up in South Carolina. We were taught the history of the Blacks that contributed to this nation as a whole, Sanders said.
