FILE Bahamas Utilities Service and Allied Workers Union (BUSAWU) President Dwayne Woods yesterday expressed disappointment with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Works Desmond Bannister’s decision not to meet with the two unions at the Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) amid concerns about WSC’s decision to defer Christmas bonuses. BUSAWU and the Water and Sewerage Management Union (WSMU) were expected to meet with the minister last Thursday. However, that meeting did not happen. On Friday, Bannister said that he will not meet with union leaders because they decided to take “industrial action” before meeting with him. ....

Members of the Bahamas Communications and Public Officers Union (BCPOU), Bahamas Utility Services and Allied Workers Union (BUSAWU) and Water and Sewerage Management Union (WSMU) gathered at the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas (BCB) yesterday to make their voices heard. BUSAWU President Dwayne Woods said the action is just a prelude to stage two of its action against the government. “We are calling on the powers that be to step up to the plate and solve these matters in a conciliatory manner before we have to up the ante,” Woods said. ....
[email protected] AMID the threat of industrial action over money owed, Executive Chairman of the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas Fred Gottlieb told the press that his only focus is to protect the jobs of staff. On Friday, the Bahamas Communication and Public Offices Union held a press conference on the grounds of BCB about money owed to workers. A few days earlier, BCB staff walked off the job causing a news show not to air at its regular time. It is claimed that a lump sum, increment and sick incentive payments were long past due and the staff simply ran out of patience. ....

This comes after Mr Bannister told Tribune Business on Tuesday that he had planned to meet with Water & Sewerage Management Union (WSMU) and Bahamas Utilities Services & Allied Workers Union (BUSAWU) officials on Thursday after they called on their members to block all phone calls from Adrian Gibson, WSC executive chairman, and Elwood Donaldson, WSC general manager.
