Air France-KLM launches first long-haul flight with eco-fuel

Air France-KLM sent into the air what the company called its first long-haul flight powered by sustainable aviation fuel - petroleum mixed with a synthetic jet fuel derived from waste cooking oils.
The fuel used for the Paris-to-Montreal flight is part of efforts by the industry worldwide to experiment with alternative sources as regulators and governments tighten emissions rules for the coming decades. Other airlines and plane-makers are also experimenting with using varying levels of biofuels or different kinds of sustainable fuel.
The passenger jet took off with sustainable fuel making up 16 per cent of its supply for the journey. Air France-KLM announced its initiative by the tarmac at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. The medical waste in hospitals and clinics across the island has gone up by 35% since the start of the COVID pandemic. The waste includes gloves, masks and rapid tests kits and the figures were given to the Environment Department by the three companies which collect medical waste in Cyprus, from the public and the private sector.
Head of the Department of Environment Costas Hadjipanayiotou told the Cyprus News Agency that there is a constant increase in the production of this waste and therefore instructions were given to be collected more often.

30 illegal waste containers discovered in Constanta Harbor, returned to sender in Germany

30 containers that arrived from Germany carrying waste, for the same company in southeastern Prahova County, were discovered in the past two days in the Constanta Sud Agigea Harbor.
In the 12.05 - 13.05.2021 period, border policemen, in cooperation with workers from the Constanta Environment Guard, the Constanta Sud Customs Bureau and representatives of the FRONTEX Agency, have identified 30 containers arrived from Germany, for the same company in Prahova County which is conducting import activities to Romania, the Coast Guard informs on Friday.
Following checks, the Environment Guard workers established that the nearly 600 tons of waste cannot be allowed free circulation on Romanian territory, the load to be returned to the sender, in Germany, reports agerpres. ....
