WAVERLY, Iowa (KWWL) - The Waverly-Shell Rock Community School District has taken away snow days, and replaced them with virtual learning days for this school year. The district says a big reason for that, was to not have to extend the already stressful school year.
The pandemic has brought many changes among schools, and the district is using the new way to learn to their advantage.
Though, students won t have the day off, they say it s not too bad. I thought Oh geez, there s going to be a lot of work. I m not going to get this nice off day, seventh grader Natalie Beck said, Your classes take about two, like all together I d say only two hours really for me to get everything done. It s not that much work, so you still have that free day, kind of.
Talk of the Facilities Task Force bookended the Monday, Dec. 14 regular meeting of the Waverly-Shell Rock School Board, made available for viewing via Zoom. A recommendation from the Facilities Task Force is expected Wednesday, Dec. 16.
Vice President Dennis Epley read aloud to Board members a portion of the District Ethics Policy at the start of the meeting. The end-of-meeting discussion laid organizational details for the Thursday, Dec. 17 Special Meeting, where a Board decision will be made on the Facilities Task Force recommendation. Between those bookends, regular business was conducted.
