JOHNSTON Edward M. Evans Jr., 77, of Johnston, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020. He was born in Warren, on May 16, 1943, at Memorial Hospital. When Edward was born, his father was overseas fighting for his country in World War II. Until his father returned, he and his mother lived with his grandparents, forming a bond that he never quit talking about. In 1965, Edward started his career as a proud steelworker at Republic Steel. He worked there until his retirement in 2001 when it was called WCI Steel. On Oct. 9, 1965, he married the love of his life, Donna J. Finlaw, when the leaves were at their peak, as he reminded us. They spent the next 55 years together.

Derry Town Council OKs March polling spot, electioneering rules

Dec 29, 2020 DERRY — Town councilors faced a hefty agenda at its Dec. 15 meeting, approving several measures including a single polling location for the March town/school local elections, and updating town rules when it comes to potentially hazardous situations in the community. Fire Chief Michael Gagnon presented the information on the 2020 updated Hazardous Mitigation Plan, a requirement of the town’s emergency operations plan that is in place so federal disaster-related funding can be received. Gagnon said the town collaborates with the Southern New Hampshire Planning Commission on these efforts, to help identify hazards in the community and put plans in place to help reduce the impact

ALPENA This Christmas season, local churches have had to decide if Christmas Eve will be a silent night. Throughout 2020, local churches have tried to find the balance between protecting people’s physical safety and filling a spiritual need that, some feel, supersedes even the threat of COVID-19. As at many other congregations, leaders at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Alpena have wrestled with how best respond to the health concerns and mandates in the state since the coronavirus began sickening Michiganders in February.
