A36: Salisbury Conservatives write to Highways England

THE Conservative group has written to Highways England to note its total dissatisfaction and frustration with the A36.
In a letter to Neil Winter, Highways England route manager, the group has highlighted two issues in particular: The lack of any meaningful progress on the Southampton Road walkway/cycle lane improvements, and the potentially life-threatening consequences of the traffic light outage on St Mark’s Roundabout.
The A36 cycle scheme has experienced some delays due to unforeseen service lines, meaning the pavements had to be hand dug using specialist equipment and the current plan is to reopen the cycleway at the end of June. ....

A36 Southampton Road cycleway update from Highways England

That s according to Highways England, which started the scheme along Southampton Road back in January.
Highways England says the investment between College Roundabout and Bourne Way Roundabout will resolve a missing link on one of the National Cycle Network’s key routes.
The 800 metre-long extension aims to reduce the need for detours, dismounting or cycling within the carriageway.
The end result will include a widening of footpaths, reconfiguration, new signs and lining, and high friction surfacing at entrances.
The scheme was expected to be complete by the end of March, and Highways England has now told the
Journal it is nearing completion . ....

A338 and Southampton Road both set to be temporarily closed

PARTS of both Southampton Road and Churchill Way are to be temporarily closed to all traffic over the coming weeks.
From Monday, February 8, three different sections of the A338 Churchill Way will be closed, over a period of five nights.
The work is to enable Highways England to carry out carriageway crossings for cabling of new streetlighting infrastructure.
Phase one is from Monday, February 8, to Wednesday, February 10, between the hours of 7pm and 6am.

Southampton Road, Salisbury, to close for two nights

Parts of a busy road in Salisbury will close overnight due to electrical works.
Southampton Road will be closed between College Roundabout and Bourne Way roundabout on the nights of February 1 and 2.
The closure will be in place from 8pm to 6am to allow Highways England to carry out street lighting works.
The works are expected to be completed in the morning of February 3.

Highways England investment will resolve a missing link on one of the National Cycle Network’s key routes by extending the A36 cycleway.

Since 2015 the company has invested more than £85 million towards the creation of 160 new and upgraded cycle ways across England, providing safe, attractive and accessible facilities for people to cycle for work, shopping and leisure.
In the latest initiative, Highways England is investing £630,000 into the A36 Southampton Road in Salisbury, between College Roundabout and Bourne Way Roundabout.
This stretch of the National Cycle Network serves an important and well used connection, but the current route is not continuous. ....
