Thousands Of Tombs Found in Xian, Home of China's Terracotta Army

The New Xian Tombs Lie In The Middle Of A Construction Site
The city of Xian was home to 13 royal dynasties and remained the capital of ancient China for 1,100 years. Late in 2001 Chinese scientists announced they had found the tomb of Li Chi, a princess from the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907 AD) and only one year later the same team of researchers unearthed the tomb of Zhang Tang, a top judicial official of the Han dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD).
Now, the Bureau say more than “4,600 items of archaeological significance have been identified by workers, including 3,500 tombs.”
The vast number of artifacts being recovered, and the sheer scale of the site is being described as “a huge workload.” Further exemplifying the size of the operation, the Bureau added in their press release that “the archaeological excavation is enormous.” ....

Unexpected Iron Age Settlement and Roman Villa Found in Oxfordshire

“We think we might be looking at a site that was continuously occupied from the middle Iron Age, all the way through the Roman period,” marveled DigVentures fieldwork supervisor Chris Caswell. “We won’t know for sure until we’ve had a closer look at all of the available dating evidence, but we’re very excited to find out the answer.”

The DigVenture team was dispatched to Oxfordshire County in central England at the request of the environmental nonprofit Earth Trust, which has stewardship over Wittenham Clumps and its associated Iron Age hill fort site . Earth Trust is planning to expand its visitor center, but would not proceed until a thorough archaeological survey could be carried out in the surrounding area. ....

Two Dozen Possible Graves In A Black Cemetery Discovered Under Georgia Road

By Cherranda Smith
Feb 23, 2021
A three-year investigation by WSB-TV has led to the discovery of more than two dozen graves from a Black cemetery in DeKalb County, Georgia.
Fred Kinnemore, a deacon of the St. Paul Baptist Church, said no one believed him when reached out to the news outlet in 2018. Now the 50-year deacon has the proof.
“Just knowing that they’ve covered it up, for all this time,” Kinnemore said. “Once the deceased has been disturbed, you can’t bring it back.”
St. Paul Baptist Church was one of the first to be built along Wilson Road, which used to be a dirt road for horses and buggies to pass through. Shortly after, white people came to the area and reportedly didn’t like having a Black church in their neighborhood.  ....
