Cal State Channel Islands and Santa Barbara City College receive million dollar donations from Mackenzie Scott
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Two local universities received massive monetary donations thanks to billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott and her husband, Dan Jewett.
Santa Barbara City College received $20 million from Scott and Jewett and Cal State Channel Islands in Camarillo received $15 million.
Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos, awarded more than $2 billion to different schools and organizations across the globe. Using the blogging site Medium, Scott wrote about the decision to donate to $2.74 billion to organizations that focus on the arts and combating racial discrimination. She and her husband selected 286 organizations to receive the monetary gifts. ....

TEMECULA, CA A truck driver suspected of driving under the influence of drugs and causing a fiery crash last week that killed a young Murrieta man on Interstate 15 in Temecula has been charged with murder.
Kevin Wayne May, 47, of Fontana was charged Thursday with murder and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He was being held at Southwest Detention Center in lieu of $1 million bail and is due to be arraigned Friday afternoon at the Southwest Justice Center, according to court records.
The California Highway Patrol, which was investigating the April 22 crash, forwarded the case to the Riverside County District Attorney s Office on Wednesday. ....
