Arctic Journal The Winnipeg Art Gallery and the team of curators behind INUA, are pleased to announce a new online platform that invites the public to experience INUA virtually. Made possible by the exhibition’s presenting sponsor RBC, INUA Online features an immersive 360° tour of the gallery space, detailed background on each artist, and access to a growing library of virtual sessions. A central feature of the new site is an in‐depth audio companion to INUA, which allows visitors to hear the stories behind key artworks, directly from Inuit voices. The audio companion was created in partnership with the Inuit Futures in Arts Leadership: The Pilimmaksarniq/Pijariuqsarniq Project, an initiative that provides innovative, hands‐on mentorship and training opportunities across the north and south for Inuit and Inuvialuit working in the arts. ....

By PROJECT Qaumajuq PHOTOS Lindsey Reid It has been a year full of anticipation as Qaumajuq has come to completion in downtown Winnipeg. From the surrounding streets, passersby could see into the lobby and watch Inuit carvings being placed in the gallery’s visible vault, adding to local curiosity about this new place and what was happening inside. Qaumajuq (pronounced KOW-ma-yourq or HOW-ma-yourk) means “it is bright, it is lit” in Inuktitut. It is the world’s first building dedicated to contemporary Inuit art, and will become a hub that connects Canada’s North to its southern regions. Virtual performances took over across all forms of the arts, putting artists and those in the industry in an odd position. Persevering, people like DePaul MFA Arts Leadership 2020 graduate Edward McCreary navigated their way through the changing tides. “I certainly had some anxieties graduating into the performing arts field,” McCreary said. “But one of the things that drew me to Chicago was the breadth of the vibrant cultural landscape. I felt confident that with such a resilient kind of art form, and in what I’d seen from some of the arts organizations that I’ve connected with, that things were gonna come back back around.” ....
