ARTIST’S PROFILE

I first met Junyee when I was a student at the University of the Philippines in the early seventies. Together with some artist friends, we would later visit him when he began living in the campus of UP, Los Banos, which has become his home and a source of indigenous materials and inspiration for the site-specific installations for which he became widely known as the pioneer of installation art not just in the Philippines but in Southeast Asia. Those were halcyon days, walking and talking amidst the lush forestry and mountain trails at the base of Mount Makiling. ....

Live-streamed event: watch top thinkers explore how children can change the world in 2021

The Conversation has long been committed to elevating the voices of young people, especially through our Curious Kids series. We were delighted to extend the discussion on how children can change the world with a recent live-streamed event on March 10 2021, held in partnership with the State Library of Queensland. Watch it below.
Children can change the world
Children and young people have been engaging in potent storytelling for centuries – think Anne Frank and, more recently, Malala Yousafzai, Greta Thunberg and Zach Doomadgee. And yet too often adults minimise children’s voices by saying they are too young to have a useful perspective or should “stick to being kids”. ....

Claire Hsu On Asia Art Archive's Upcoming Exhibition at Tai Kwun—And What's Next For The Organisation

Hsu readily admits that this work can sound overly academic or even dry to people outside the art world, but she has worked to make AAA an accessible space for everyone. All of the archive’s materials are free for the public to access so, Covid-19 restrictions aside, anyone can walk into AAA’s library at any time or sit in on the dozens of talks it hosts annually. AAA also works with more than 250 local schools in Hong Kong, many of whom bring their students to the library to learn about the organisation’s materials first-hand, and runs Hong Kong Art Workshop in collaboration with the University of Hong Kong (HKU), a course for art history students. ....

Did Woolly Mammoths And Humans Walk Around New England Together? Apparently, Yes
CBS Boston

Syndicated Local – CBS Boston
BOSTON (CBS) – An accidental discovery is changing the timeline on woolly mammoth, while helping to answer the question did woolly mammoths and humans walk around New England together?
Nathaniel Kitchel is a post doctoral fellow in Dartmouth College’s anthropology department. He was visiting the Hood Museum of Art on campus to examine some Native American artifacts that were in storage.
It was a chance discovery.
“I bent down and looked at the tag and Mt Holly Mammoth… Mt. Holly Vermont,” Kitchel says, referring the specimen he saw. “On the same shelf, in the same New England section, I noticed a fairly large bone, a fossil bone, especially one that old, has a distinctive look to it.” ....
