UK equities finally attracted investors attention in March after almost a year of outflows, according to the latest Investment Association data, while US equity funds suffered withdrawals of £1bn.
According to the IA, March saw £472m invested in the UK All Companies sector and £217m in smaller UK companies. Though by no means the best-selling sectors - the top spot was taken by IA Global with net retail sales of £1.6bn in March - this marks the first such inflows into these two sectors in six months. ....

After a long period of neglect, investors are finally warming to UK funds again off the back of the success of the vaccine rollout. 
The latest set of Investment Association figures show savers invested £472m into funds in the UK All Companies sector. It comes as the country starts to open up and investors pin their hopes on a splurge in consumer spending and a boost to retail, travel and leisure. 
“The beginning of Spring saw the thawing of investor sentiment towards UK companies following the successful rollout of the coronavirus vaccine and broader growth in business confidence,” Chris Cummings, chief executive of the IA said.  ....

2020 was the third consecutive year the market area has missed the mark and lost money
Funds in the Investment Association s Targeted Absolute Return (TAR) sector failed to keep their promise once more in 2020 following markedly varied and poor returns throughout the course of the year, according to some investment professionals, who warned the market area will likely suffer prolonged outflows over the medium-to-long term.
Others, however, have suggested that the market area has performed broadly in line with other IA sectors over the past 12 months, and that there is still a case to be made for holding some of these. ....
