Supreme Court affirms lower court anti-stalking order against Daniel Banyai

WEST PAWLET — The Vermont Supreme Court affirmed a lower court’s decision to issue a protective order against Daniel Banyai, who owns the Slate Ridge shooting facility in West Pawlet.
The protective order was granted to Banyai’s neighbor Mandy Hulett, who sought the anti-stalking order against Banyai in December 2020 on behalf of herself and her children after she said Banyai posted threatening messages about her family on Facebook, causing her family “great emotional distress,” and said, “they feared imminent physical harm.”
Banyai declined to comment on the case.
“I don’t respect your journalism,” he said. “I don’t understand, it’s like a slap in the face. I’m saying now and forever, I don’t want you guys to contact me. I have no comment for eternity.” ....

WEST PAWLET — The Vermont Supreme Court affirmed a lower court’s decision to issue a protective order against Daniel Banyai, who owns the Slate Ridge shooting facility in West Pawlet.

Pawlet voters face choices for Select Board seats

PAWLET — Voters in this small, rural town will have a choice of seven candidates to fill three seats on the Select Board with only one incumbent among them.
With a pair of one-year seats available and one three-year seat, only vice-chair John Malcolm is running for re-election.
Malcolm is running for one of the one-year seats, along with Daniel Banyai, Rich Hulett, Martin Kravitt, Estella Leach and Jessica Van Oort.
Four of those candidates — Banyai, Hulett, Kravitt and Leach — are also running for the three-year seat and will be joined by Maureen Brown who is also seeking the three-year term. ....

Banyai faces injunction, protective order

The Town of Pawlet won a preliminary injunction against Daniel Banyai in the Environmental Division of Superior Court and a neighbor got a protective order against him recently in Civil Court.
Judge Thomas Durkin issued the preliminary injunction against Banyai on Jan. 21 ordering him to not hold or allow any firearms training-related activities on his property at 541 Briar Hill Road, a property commonly referred to as Slate Ridge.
Pawlet’s town attorney Merrill E. Bent, of the Manchester firm Woolmington, Campbell, Bent & Stasny, asked for the preliminary injunction while the court considers the larger issues of requiring unpermitted structures on the property to be removed, the imposition of fines, legal fees, and a permanent injunction. ....
