N.S. premier deflects questions on drunk driving charges he faced years ago, but court files give better picture

As Nova Scotia Premier Iain Rankin continues to deflect questions related to previous drunk driving charges he disclosed earlier this week, court documents provide insight into what happened in 2005 when he was charged with impaired driving.
Rankin confirmed publically for the first time Monday he had been convicted of impaired driving in 2003 when he was 20 years old, and he also revealed he faced impaired driving charges in 2005 but those were eventually overturned.
Since then, the 38-year-old premier has refused to answer questions about whether he had been drinking or was drunk on July 25, 2005, the date of his second impaired driving charge. ....

Halifax police charge Lower Sackville man with stunting


HALIFAX
Halifax police have charged a Lower Sackville man with stunting on N.S. Highway 102.
On Friday morning, a member of Halifax Regional Police’s traffic unit spotted a car travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 102 near Kearney Lake Road in Halifax. Police say the officer clocked the vehicle at 157 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone.
The driver, a 40-year-old man from Lower Sackville, N.S. was charged with stunting a charge automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit.
The fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to the driver’s record. ....

Traffic stop leads to multiple weapons charges against Halifax man

A Halifax man with a lengthy criminal history is facing new charges following a weekend traffic stop.
Police were called to the 100 block of Kearney Lake Road Saturday morning for reports of a possible impaired driver.
When they approached a grey Volkswagen Jetta and asked the driver to step out of the car, police said he instead took off at a high rate of speed.
The car crashed into a guardrail on the ramp leading to Highway 102, according to a news release issued Monday. The driver was arrested and a loaded handgun was recovered. No one was injured. ....
