By Special Arrangement | Photo Credit: By Special Arrangement Sitar exponent and Rajyotsava award winner Shivanand Tarlaghatti passed away at a private hospital in Dharwad due to age-related illness on Sunday. The last rites were conducted on Sunday. He was 94. He is survived by his three daughters and son. Tarlaghatti was a recipient of various awards, including Kalashri Award of Sangeet Natak Academy and the Rajyotsava award. Born into a musicians family at Adaragunchi village in Hubballi taluk of Dharwad district, Tarlaghatti learnt flute first only to shift to sitar later. He learnt music under the tutelage of R.V. Gudihal and later under Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar at Mumbai. ....

The varsity chose retired Chemistry professor T.M. Aminabhavi for the award and six professors who had served in the same department for nearly four decades have taken exception saying that a ‘tainted’ person had been chosen. Addressing presspersons in Dharwad on Wednesday B.R. Havinale and others said that Aminabhavi had been suspended on the charge of cheating his colleague M.Y. Kariduraganavar while obtaining a patent for his research in polymer science. The fair will be held from Friday to March 2 and a series of events have been scheduled in which senior scientists and technocracts from across the country will participate and deliver talks. According to director of DRSC Veeranna Bolishetty, as the event is being held to mark ‘National Science and National Mathematics Day’ the focus will be on management of e-waste, biotechnology and nano-technology, popularising solar energy, among others. During the event, Keshav Bulbule from Hyderabad will deliver a special talk on e-waste management, Director of Sun Ray Solar Museum V.S.
