Karnataka: Brothers abduct, kill 11-year-old for quick money | Hubballi News

HAVERI: Desperate to make a quick buck and influenced by TV crime shows, two brothers aged 20 and 17 allegedly abducted and murdered an 11-year-old neighbour, planning to seek ransom for him a few days later.
The duo were arrested on Friday after they fled home and their parents both teachers reported their suspicious behaviour to police.

Police said the brothers abducted Tejasgouda, son of advocate Jagadish Mallikeri, in a car from his house in Ashwini Nagar on March 7. The boy’s parents complained to cops the same day and a search was launched. Four days later, his charred body was found on a hostel premises near his house. SP KG Devaraj said the brothers had trawled many films and TV shows on destroying evidence and evading cops but the burned body left enough leads to follow. ....

Karnataka: Advocate hacked with machete in Hospet court | Hubballi News

BALLARI: An advocate was hacked to death with a machete in the Hospet court on Saturday, sparking panic and tension among lawyers and litigants on the premises. The killer, a relative of the victim, was nabbed by police instantly.
Tarihalli Venkatesh, 48, was attacked by 22-year-old Tarihalli Manoj over a property dispute but other aspects are being investigated, police said.

The attacker lived in the same neighbourhood as Venkatesh, Myasageri, and there were differences between the two, they said. Venkatesh is survived by his wife and four children.
Around 11.30am on Saturday, Venkatesh was sitting with his colleagues when Manoj rode a bike to the court and barged in. As the others watched stunned, he pulled out a machete and struck Venkatesh repeatedly in the head and neck, killing him instantly. “Police personnel nabbed the accused as he tried to escape from the spot,” said Sr ....

MANDYA: A sweeper with the Maddur town municipality hanged himself on Tuesday, three months after he was allegedly forced to get into a manhole and clean it with his hands. In a note he left behind, Narayana, 37, blamed top officials for harassing him to declare that he had voluntarily gone without safety gear.
Sources said on November 2, Narayana was forced to clean a manhole and he was being hounded since as the incident made headlines.

Riders operating for bike-taxi startup Rapido gather in front of HSR Layout police station after their bikes were seized
BENGALURU: Around 40 riders operating for online bike-taxi startup Rapido gathered outside HSR Layout police station on Friday and sought intervention of cops after their two-wheelers were seized by RTO officials.
For a couple of days now, RTO officials have been seizing bikes attached with Rapido across the city, claiming the bike-taxi service has no licence. According to RTO, owners of the seized motorbikes should pay a minimum fine of Rs 5,500 to get the vehicles released. The protesters urged police to get Rapido officials pay the amount and get their bikes released. ....
