Sisters School Board snapshot Tuesday, February 9, 2021 11:57 AM The Sisters School District Board held its regular monthly meeting in person at Sisters Middle School (SMS) on Wednesday, February 3. • In honor of National School Counselor Week, community member Charlie Kanzig acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the school district’s four counselors, Kate Kuitert, Brook Jackson, Rick Kroytz, and Lindy Weddel Gilbert. • Steve Swisher, the budget committee chair, spoke during community comments and explained that the groups Citizens for Community and the Vision/Action team would like to have a meeting with Superintendent Curt Scholl and School Board Chair Jay Wilkins, about their desire to support the passage of the local bond measure this spring (which will continue the current rate for local taxpayers). Sisters School District highlights Tuesday, January 19, 2021 10:34 AM The Sisters School Board met for the first time in 2021 on Wednesday, January 6 via Zoom. • Superintendent Curt Scholl thanked the teachers and support staff for continuing to have a common focus and working together for the sake of Sisters’ students. • Early indications show little increase in enrollment, but housing projects continue to boom in the area, so an enrollment increase is strongly anticipated. Scholl reported that with the expected growth for next year, the elementary school may need to install one or two portables to accommodate students. • Scholl reported that the elementary school conducted the first week back from the holiday break in distance learning, but returned to the hybrid model January 11, which they have been in for most of the school year. Elementary school will continue in-person By Charlie Kanzig Tuesday, December 22, 2020 12:40 PM Sisters Elementary School will be allowed to remain open for “hybrid” learning under the state’s “Safe Harbor” clause, which was extended following an announcement late December 16 from the Oregon Department of Education and the Oregon Health Authority. The “Safe Harbor” status had been set to expire January 4, 2021. ODE expects to publish updated information in the “Safe Schools, Ready Learners” program, including regarding “Safe Harbor” in the next two weeks. However, superintendent Curt Scholl emphasized that students at Sisters Elementary will take a week of Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) the week of January 4, with a plan to return to the “in-person hybrid” model beginning January 11 provided that nothing else significantly changes in the interim regarding coronavirus infection rates. ....
